I have the engine out of the beetle at the minute, should have checked the compression whilst it was in the car - stupid me. But just wondering if you can get the results by turning it over by hand? I don't really want to put it back in just to find that I need t pull the motor out again for more engine work.

cheers

U have to bolt on a discarded trans case ( I use a piece I hacked off an old case) then mount the starter to it. But u need to get it to operating temp to get a true result. That is also possible- by hooking up a temp fuel supply & running the eng 4 a while. These motors r real easy to set up for "bush bench-testing"!
