I was driving between Frankston and Dandy 3 weeks ago, and had an insane cross wind knocking me about. Travelling in my trusty ol 74 camper i must add. I couldn't go over 83kmph due to instability. Then all of a sudden i heard a bang, i looked back and up and noticed one of the corners of my pop top had lifted up. One of the straps had ripped in half and the front right corner of the pop top was lifting up, catching even more wind. I started slowing down and then bang, another one went. I hit the brakes hard, swerved onto the gravel and then the whole roof popped up. My steering wasn't doing much and thought i was about to leave the ground, mary poppins style. I jumped in the back, put both hands through the sunroof, and tried to pull the pop top back down. It wouldn't budge...it was really grabn the wind. I took my feet off the floor and hung off the roof with all of my 90 kg and eventually she dropped. Using a rope and my golf bag i managed to secure the roof so i could drive home.
Anyhoo, could someone please steer me in the right direction. I live in melbourne, eastern suburbs. I will need 2 straps repaired and also the main seal between the pop top and the body replaced. The seal is old and worn, and now has a stress/tear mark running through the middle of it. I think the roof was only seconds off ripping off the body and getting airborne.
thanks
