So the brakes on my 56 are some bodgy setup. Rear cylinders are the original 56 but were running 58-64 shoes with the 56 adjusters hence the shoes did not seat properly. Finally worked that all out.

But I still need help with the fronts. I'lll be buggered if I know what setup its running. They aren't 56 cylinders. They are a single 8mm bolt type cylinder. They have a slanted face where the bleed nipple is, as pictured.

They look to be the same shape as the original 56 shoes. I have a set of rear 56 ones (told front and rear on 56 are the same??)here but they are 30mm wide and the ones on the car are 40mm as pictured.

I have a front wheel cylinder that I am told is a 58> cylinder. It would work but the only thing is the notch in the end of the piston that locates the shoe is almost twice the width of the part of the shoe that slots into it. Is this a problem, or could I use these cylinders?? It has the same piston diameter as the ones on the car currently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I know what you're talking about - I recently got some Brazilian wheel cylinders for a 58 to 64 and the slots are quite wide. I plan on running them given they are technically correct (ie I ordered and received the right parts). Probably an example of the Brazilian one-size-fits-all approach to parts.
