Any ideas for discouraging a cat from spending lots of time under the beetle???

I know its a common thing as they like the engine warmth but mine keeps getting covered in oil and is dirty & smelly as a result. It must also be harmful to his fur & skin not to mention the amount of oil he must ingest from licking. (fixing oil leaks is a long way off, due to zero budget & I don't have a garage to put car in away from cat)

Regards,

Matt.

Not possible, beetle won't fit through front door & cat is 8 years old & set in his ways, stays in at night after meal time but is the outdoor type during the day. He annoys the shit out of me to get out first thing every morning.

think it is something that you have to teach them at a young age. ours used to love lounging under the cars. she was a real curious thing.. one day i got a phone call from someone saying they had our cat.. they were about 30 k's from our house... somehow she had hitched a ride with two different cars to get where she ended up as the people who rang hadn't been near our house... she was absolutely petrified when i picked her up and has never gotten too close to cars since. she NEVER sleeps under the cars now, stays in the garden beds.
see.... air and water do mix 😉

Mine like to lay on the sunroof, its a great spot so she can see all that happens in the back yard

if you go along to the local pet shop you can buy some cat nip or similar spray use it around the car
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

option 1, keep underside of car spotless,

Option 2 get cat from under car, put in car & take for short drive, if you survive this, then cat may not go near car again ever..., reason been one of ours spent a lot of time on sons Skyline, & last week he was coming home & found the cat out in lane, he picked up & gave the cat a 30metre ride into yard, cat utterly freaked & will now not go near his (& only his) car
Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54

SOLVED

Was visiting my son this árvo & he had one of those plastic bakers trays lying around the yard (the bakers version of a milk crate)

It's just the right size to turn upside down & shove under the back of the bug - not enough room for the cat to get under but enough gap to stop the tray from being close enough to melt.

Matt.

yer I was going to suggest putting something under there so that it couldn't get under there. Like a box or something.

My cat loves getting in my oval. Last time he was shut in there for serveral hours before I realised he was missing. When I found him he was in the driver seat looking out of windscreen meowing at me as to when are you going to let me out. Lucky no little accidents inside. I have to watch him as hes quick and always wants to get in. I could take him for a drive and scare the crap out of him but he might wreck my car.😂

I had a similar problem with my nextdoor neighbours cat & the silly fart complained that her cat was always covered in oil/grease etc. The problem was solved when I hurled it over the fence into their swimming pool. They kept it locked up at night after that & it never left dirty paw prints on my car.l👍
They finally got the hint that I didn't like their vermin (cat) crawling/scratching/pissing on/near my car/garden/backyard/property after the dreaded "hession sack & garbage compactor incedent".

If I was really cruel, I would have messed with it's head before it met it's fate. Kinda like what cats do to native birdlife.
