3 sucks 1 blow?

has any one come across this before. Have a 2ltr type 4 kombi motor with twin dells.
problem = 3 x barrels suck in air 1x (#4) is blowing air out through the carb and sounds like a compressor?
any ideas?

pull the tappet covers off and look for a broken adjuster etc.....wind the motor over and watch the rockers on the sus cylinder, specifically the exhaust...........
