trying everything to find the problem I am going to replace the coil, the fella I bought the car off has placed stainless covers around the gen. and the coil, while I know (maybe) that the gen isn't causing the problem I am wondering if the stainless covers could be causing heat build up in these two items and maybe this has caused the coil to fail and maybe lead to premature failure of the gen., mind you I have had it for a cupla years now and the prob. has only surfaced in the last few months. whata ya think? also is there any way to check if the coil is cactus?

have no idea, looked all over it and there is no identifying marks, just a black bakelite type end and all the rest is an aluminium, well looks like aluminium, case.

From a previous topic.

This saves me from starting my own topic, that is exactly what happened to me at Christmas then again last Sunday, went like a train for miles then suddenly feels like it's outa fuel, pull over get it going again and after 100 - 300 meters its the same thing, so 1916 (alright if I call you by your first name?) you suggest the condenser? well I'll give it a go, trouble is that next time I take it out it's likely to do the same thing and catch me miles from home, still, worth a try.

Had the coil checked at an auto electricians today and he was a bit worried about the weak spark, maybe this is the problem. He dosn't supply coils so told me to go to a parts supplier, reckons their all the same but in my experience there are good and bad in everything and $ don't always tell the story. As I have sorted out all I can with the fuel looks like it has to be electrics.

We have lift off, yeehar, thanks to all though I still don't know what the problem was as in the end I just changed everything, though I'm leaning towards the coil

BASTARD!!!!!!!!!! It's doing it again ! is there anything that can stuff a coil or condenser so quickly, only lasted about 2-300 klicks, least I think it's the coil or condenser as I am not sure if that was the problem now, maybe a fluke, I'll replace the coil again then try it out once more, BASTARD.

How is the fuel pump ,as if it has got a dodgy valve or diafram it will give these symptoms and or possibly the fuel tank outlet is getting blocked every now and then by shit in the bottom of the tank.
How do i know you ask , well lets just say i chased a similar problem for a few months on our old beetle till finally the pump dropped dead permantly

well it is a fairly new pump, though I think it's one of those mexican or swarhili ones or sumthn, if the replacement coil dosn't work I'll try swaping the pump, thanks.
