Just had new shocks fitted up front of my 74 'L' bug. Wheel alignment too. Great ride but still gives the impression that the wheels are 'leaning' under when going into a turn. Is this usual for this model ? Or is there another underlying problem? Thanks

unless it was done at a vw garage most aligners dont know shit when it comes to air cooled vws

i know its just been aligned but it would be worth checking all the front bushes - swaybar and control arm
when theyre flogged out (comon on supers) it gives a rather vague feeling

also what tyre pressures are u running?
supers are happiest with 18 in the front and 28 in the back

Thanks DUB74L. I think i was warned of the bushes when i first bought it. Well it`s down to a weedub specialist tomorrow to get it sorted once and for all.

If you get a wheel alignment ask for 1.5 degree neg on the front.

It will make a very slight tyre wear on the inside, but night and day as far as handling is concerned.

I would also up your front tyre pressurres to around 24psi this will also help with the rolling of the tyre on the rim,
when you go around a corner.

Cheers Col

not bad advice Col
altho i think 24psi is abit high, they tend to bounce all over the road at that pressure

front bushings in supers are the first things to wear out
u can get urethane ones to but they can be stiffer and noisy, alot of ppl dont like them for this
i prefer original german OE rubber ones

Thug, its worth checking out SuperBeetlesOnly
its another forum like this but its specifically for ppl with superbeetles so suspension questions are alot easier and quicker to get answers for

they have a good sticky on super front end problems

Thanks Colin. Car is wearing Kumho 165/80R15 Power Star 758`s up front. Yokohama 175/80R15 Super Digger 875`s rear. But yes, it`s got to be a trip to a weedub specialist to sort it out.

ahgh ! Forgot to mention - The original Sachs i bought ( 3 bolt top fixing) for the front had to be changed to KYBs` as it was found that the front had been lowered 1" and was using KYBs` anyway.
