After rebuilding the front and rear brakes on a 69 Beetle I had difficulty bleeding the system. Bled the rear no worries but couldnt get any fluid to the front. I checked the lines, all clear so it was out with the master cylinder. On inspection the stroke limiting screw was not scewed into the rear piston assy - the thread was stripped. I take it this is supposed to be screwed to the piston assy? Could this have caused the front piston assy not to work correctly? The rest of the master cylinder looks in great condition including rubber cups.
Cheers
Dave

Thanks Dave,
Yes i did bleed the master cylinder first and then the RH rear, then LH rear and then attempted the front. Is that screw screwed in all the way under normal conditions?

Dave, what do you mean by this? Can you explain how you bleed the master cylinder? Would this have been the reason I used copious amounts of fluid to bleed mine the first time around.

Have never heard of bleeding the master cylinder.

Cheers

you need it mounted but can do in the vice as well then fit to then car

get yr mate to slowly push the pedal down ( very slow ) while the 2 feed lines are hooked up but the 3 out lines are not best done with the fuel tank out as well so u can put 3 fingers over the out ports and allow air and fluid to bleed out wear some safety glasses as well as it will squirt fluid a bit

when u have the air out and just getting a squirt of fluid keep the pedal down while you fit each brake line dont let pedal up otherwise you suck air into the chambers again

you may have to do a few times to get teh fluid through

Looks like I need to source another rear circuit piston assy as the thread is stripped out.
Thanks
