Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get some VW bits for a friend he got a 1952 VW Beetle the one with split rear glass.

I need to get a steering wheel and the rear stop lights. Can they still be purchase new or are they impossible to get now? Can anyone recommend me a VW shop that would be able to get these parts for me? one in Perth would be great 😎

Thank you

You would be better off looking in Germany
You are not going to find much for that rarity here

Hope your mate has DEEP pockets.

Hope you are on a % finders fee

Good luck

I didn't know that they're that rare. Umm so I guess little or no chance of getting parts for them in Aus?

The steering wheel was the same from 1950 to 1955, but the horn button changed in 1952 to a black background (was white). These aren't too hard to track down. There is a pretty tatty one on The Samba at the moment for US$80, or for the best you can buy there is Kochs (Kochs linky)

The tail lights depends on when it was made. Prior to October 1952 it will have the round tail lights and after October it will have the heart tail lights. Rounds go for approx. US$800 and the hearts are around US$600. Try The Samba for these too, there are usually hearts for sale. Rounds are a bit harder to come by.

Easiest way to tell which type your car needs is if the window rubbers have chrome strips in them or if the speedo is right in front of the steering wheel, then you need the hearts. If you are really keen you can tell by the chassis number.

A 52 is a rare car over here, have you got any pikkies??

Those common 1952 models are everywhere. Just let your friend know that they're no good, common as muck, and that I'll give him $200 to take that troublesome car off his hands.

Thanks for that. That is some expensive taillights I have to check and see if it is the round type or heart type.

Sorry I haven't got any pics I'll try and get some next time I see him. I think the car is actually in a pretty good condition with just a few bits missing from it. It been sitting in front of his house for years though.
