Hi, just wondering if anyone can help with some info.

I bought a 1956 Oval which is in getting panel and paint treatment. I also bought a 1970 bug. Both unregistered. I'm going to swap the Oval onto the 1970 chasis when it gets back.

I know its not a big deal to swap over but once its done is there anyway I can keep all the original numbers of the Oval? Do I need to get an engineers certificate? Whats the process?

Any help would be great.

Regards Dom

not unless you cut out the 2 body numbers under the back seats and weld them in place and pretend you just changed brakes and suspension

Yes - it needs to be engineered

Why would you bother changeing the numbers , as any vw nut worth his or her salt will know from just looking that it is the wrong model pan .
Once engineered it will also be registered as 1970 model as that is the chassis year.
If you are so keen to keep it all 56 why can't you use the 56 pan??????
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

Not the be all and end all to keep numbers just remembered reading something similiar and thought I'd ask if anyone knew how to do it legally.

Better handling performance is why I'm doing the swap.

Thanks for your input.
