Hi, I've recently purchased an original 1965 beetle, my first.
I've converted it to 12v & also purchased a new 1600 twin-port to replace the very tired 1300.
I've rebuilt the gearbox as I was informed it would easily handle the new motor.
The original flywheel is in good nick & the clutch & pressure plate have been recently replaced.
My question is: Is it possible to use the original flywheel, clutch & pressure plate on the new 1600 in order to avoid having to remove 2mm of material from the bell-housing for the new flywheel clearance & having to shell out any more moola! for a new starter motor.
OR is it just something that needs to be done?

Yes,
If it is a late 6 volt flywheel ('66 - '67 1300) with an 'O' ring seal the same as the 12 volt flywheel it will just bolt over, the early 6 volt flywheels won't. The 1600 will make your 180mm clutch work hard, you may find it will slip, especially if it is a brazillian one.
