I bought mine from George at Classic Vee Dub about 6 months ago and havent had any dramas so far.
Cost me around $200 if I remember correctly.

Havent had a chance to fit it yet dave, pulled it apart ready to use the glass and reflectors

So if you cant buy a brand alternator, and the price range is so broad, any ideas?

Give George a buzz at Classic VeeDub, you won't find cheaper. I've used these on a few cars now with no problems.

Try some of the VW wreckers...

or better still, a non VW wrecker...
they sell em cheap...
and replace the bearings and brushes..

best of luck

I did my alternator on the way home also Bruce, the bearings were so far gone by the time i got to Ballina that the pulley was wearing into the alternator case.
Think i will go for one from George and see how it goes.

Bad luck on Your alternator..

Maybe it will be a good idea to replace the bearings now on Mine...
it came off an engine at a wreckers...

it hasn't done much mileage from me
but I have no idea previously..
