That's all we had in the days before fuel injection gave us dual port heads! All you need are the right manifolds and linkages. Standard Type 3 carbs and manifolds have been used on Bugs in the past but linkages can be a pain.

1500S would the power gain be worth the drama on a 1600SP? Just curious.

Thanks

In the "good ol' days" when VW first put twin carbs on the 1500S (and let's concentrate on the OZ built one with 7.8:1 comp ratio) the given BHP was around 54 for the single carb one. This increased to around 65 for the twin carb version and yes the power gain was worth the trouble. On a Type 3 it was actually no trouble at all to fit the twin carbs.

VW thought it was completely worthwhile when the first 1600 hit the market in 66 with the first Fastback as all were produced with twin carb sp heads. With a slight reduction in CR, the BHP was similar in the 1600 to the 1500S. The intro of the dual port heads gave no gain in BHP in those days with the standard carbs.

Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Folks,

What about just a bigger / better single carb than the Pict 30 ( at least that is what I have on my 1600 ). Would you get much of an improvement ?

Holley bugsprays were very popular years ago...

You may have freezing up problems in the winter with the long inlet manifold...
