Hi Guys,

I was thinking about running a tap through the threads in the case (8mm) before assembling.

Does anyone know what size tap to use?

Cheers

Hi

Thanks Matt.

On the subject of head studs, give them a really good clean on a wire brush and then polish them up in kero or similar with some wet n dry so that they are spotless, that way when your fitting your pistons they wont sit in any rusty or greasy crap before you fit your barrels.

even thats to much
stock 8mm studs are 18-19 ft lb and 10mm are 22-23 ft lb

non OE ones can snap over that
ive got proof of that under the house 😂

it would just be a manual not a "vw" book
factory tension rates for 8mm studs like i said earlier are 18-19 ft lb

it can be either or that lets go
ive had an engine with 3studs that have snapped
its usually the the twin port engines with 10mm studs and no case savers that pull the threads

newt im running scat chrome molys in my 1776 and i just took them to 25 initially then only 20 later when i put my copper shims in
10psi of boost and no dramas yet
but boris told me theyre fine upto 30ft lb

its not "wrong" it just varies from manual to manual
but the original vw spec tensions were way less

a block with case savers and good german studs would be ok but if u try that with brazillian studs trust me i know from experience they snap

So the german motors are better built ?
Also what are case savers? Are they just helli coils?

Hi

Case savers are a solid insert, I think that they are 12mm OD with a 8mm thread internal thread.
