Had a great day with my Beetle today,

about a week ago got a local VW mechanic to go over my car, only thing she needed was a new fan belt. You can't complain about that when buying a new car can you? Needs no other mechanical parts replacing. Got a spare fan belt as well, just in case I need one.

Had that fitted this morning, seems to have even fixed my issue where the generator light was just slightly coming on with the headlights on. Nice! Must have been slightly slipping I guess and caused the belt to wear out.

Went for a drive in the country, had a bit of lunch, this chap walked up and asked to take a picture of my car! Complimented me on how nice it looked. You know out of all the Audi's, Volvo's and Mercedes I've owned, no one has ever asked me to take a picture of my car.

Yep life is good driving a Beetle!

Started playing "Spot the Beetle" driving lately as well, spotted 3 on the road today.

Sweet looking Bug. No wonder people want to take pictures! 👍

I love my golf too - so much fun to driver and I've gotten heaps of complements too. VW ownership can be great.

Yeah I was only talking to my father today about how the Beetle is the worst steering car I've ever driven, the way it rolls around the road and through corners, yet the Mk1 Golf is the best car in terms of road holding and handling I've ever driven.

I love the way the Golf glues itself to the road, really holds on as you hold on through a corner, very go-kart like!

On a twisty road I can gain ground on a larger engined car which have rubbish handling.

I'm not sure what the previous owner did to the engine in our Mk1 but it has so much power, even for an auto, plant the foot, squeal the tyres, revs so nice

Yeah - I've had a number of cars and have more fun driving the bug than almost anything I've owned before. I had a group of Japanese tourists come up and ask for pictures with her late last year - and that's sure never happened with another car. Things I enjoy:

1. Friendly waves from other volksie drivers while out.
2. Kids pointing and going 'look mummy'. Kids seem to love her.
3. The joy of watching people on the street punch eachother as you go past.
4. Notes left under the windscreen wipers. She's had a few 'love your car' notes and one offer to feature in a movie.
5. Being a complete idiot and still being able to perform basic maintainence on her.

My old '72 bug had a stuffed steering box so its handling was, um, interesting. The golf feels awesome by comparison, and it's not any where near as worn out as the beetle. And the golf is lighter too (around 800kg)!

But I still want another bug or a Type 3.

Looks like a one owner car before you got her, dont see many early beetles with the interior in that good a condition. must not have been driven much, the carpet is in amazing shape I would say the car did not come out of the garage a lot! Glad to hear you going to keep her original, a wonderful piece of history for yourself and others to enjoy!

We have a Mum who HAS TO stop past our place at least two times a week so her two kids can see the 'buggy' or the 'fire bus'. She actually has to go down our street especially. You should see the looks on her kids faces if one of them are parked on the nature strip at the time.

Everyone remembers old Volkswagens, so yeah you get plenty of interest. Enjoy

With the steering, I make sure our Beetle has 34psi rear and 24psi front, and it handles fine for me, but then I can't say I can compare it to many other cars, so I don't know what to compare to. It handles better than our Kombi, and not as good as my lowered EH Holden.
