Hi all,
well justice, what a coincidence..seeing your post of a 54 beelte in perth. Nice one..I have recently aquiired a 54 I have been after for 10 yrs, (same colour).
It was a 1 family owned car, brought across from Vic. and has sat for 20 years.

I am hoping some here may be able to point me in the right direction, to find some history..the guys where saying IN2VW`s on DSK is a source of knowledge??

Anyhow, the family where quite certain the beetle was ordered and imported from Germany, it has all the Made in Germany plates behind spare wheel.??
Chassis # -1-070 480 3-
ID plate (front)# Faguistel Na 070 4803
Body Stamp (front)# MKA 2443
Date 1954
Eng. # 3036 928
New stamps underneath; BW(or M?) 9322 W6 SP

Bit of info here, appreciate any help.

BTW, there is also another Green 54 that is very close to hitting the streets here. a beautifully finsihed bug aswell.

cheers kieran

Hi Kieren,

Welcome to AVD. That 54 left the factory in Germany in early September 1954 as a CKD (complete knock down) kit. It would have been assembled in Martin and King Australias assembly plant in Clayton in Victoria, and probably been registered around November 1954.

If it has a Victorian rego, then you can get the rego history from http://www.aomc.asn.au/eng&regrecords.htm

IN2VWs visits this site regularly, and his website is well worth a visit http://www.in2vws.com/ .

Any chance of some pictures of yours?

The MKA stamping indicates it was a CKD car as Volumex indicates. The engine is not the original, the original engine would have had a 1-XXX number. No real change , but the pre '55s had a different oil filler, a round voltage regulator and often a different oil-bath air filter compared with the later 36HPs. I think the ignition lead 'supports' were a little different as well.

And here I thought that I may have a reasonably rare bug on the perth roads, but it looks like they are almost a dime a dozen over here. O well still love it and wouldn't change it for anything.
