Get out into the Dandenong ranges, not realy Melbourne I know but top spot for a drive, dosn't take too long to get there and some nice little stop spots, check out the Bill Rickets gallery while in the ranges and check out his story, realy amazing Ausie (bit of a wierdo tho) Oh and you have to experience Lygon Street for a feed at night, goes on into the wee small hours and there's some real characters in there.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

The Melbourne Museum is supposed to be quite good, and there's another one at Docklands that is similar to the Powerhouse - hands-on cool science stuff.

Drive to Clayton and have a look at what used to be the old Volkswagen factory.

Go to the Dandenong and/or Coburg drive-in theatres -they are both 1960s triple-screens. Coburg is done up like an old juke box, with a Cadillac perched on the roof of the ticket box.

Drive to No. 3 Dagonet St in Strathmore, and take some photos - it's the Kerrigan's house from the movie The Castle. It backs on to Essendon Airport.

The CUB brewery used to do tours and taste tests - not sure if they still do.

The National Gallery is pretty cool, especially if there is a good exhibition on.

Yes, Victoria Markets. maybe technically North Melbourne.
Lots of stuff to trawl through.

I like that the interstaters have come up with some suggestions that I have never heard of and I've lived here my whole life 😀

What are you hoping to see in St Kilda, Gary...?

Casino??... Dont like the place-
Melbourne is full of wonderful bars and places to eat that are spectacular. The casino does have great restauraunts but at the end of the day its still a casino. How much can you polish a turd? Its still poo!
The great ocean road is a must. Fabtastic B&Bs in apollo bay for a stay over. Best driving road by far.
THe melbourne zoo is nice but no comparison to toronga zoo.
St kilda is melbs equivalent to kings cross without as many weirdos and strip clubs.
If your into the bar scene heaps of cute bars in the city for a drink (red hummingbird, emerald peacock)
Let us know what your after and perhaps we can better suggest!

Take a walk down Brunswick St and check out a few cafe's etc. (Not as good as it used to be since the yuppie set took over but still has it's bohemian feel to a small degree).

Plenty of great pubs to choose from on any street corner in the inner city.

Friday nights at Acland st usually have a few choppers about (and the token regular weirdo's).👍
If you can't fix it with a hammer,
you have an electrical problem....

Melbourne Museum - Maybe
Victoria Markets -Yes
Casino - Yes
Jay Said , "What are you hoping to see in St Kilda, Gary...?" I dont know what I was hoping to see must look & see to find out maybe Molly Meldrum.

I like some weirdos and the bars sound good I will leave the strip shows for the police and the criminal dudes in underbelly.

Brunswick street sounds very good

Although I love drive-in theatres , Neighbours and drives to places will try to fit in the above mainly city stuff this trip I will return next year to one of the VW shows and see more

I will post some pics when I return
Thanks for the info and very generous ideas you all posted
