20b n/a splitwindow bus & 20bt bay

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/76015/20b-na-splitwindow-bus-20bt-bay

20bkombi ·

Just bought 56? splity for my new race car.
This will be a slow build as you would expect, and thinking of starting n/a 20b, yep my current trusty bridge port minus the turbo, but running on alcohol.
Time to bring out the old 091 4speed box, not the best ratios but should be up to the task because this set up won't have much power using the original plenum and throttle body. Should be loads of fun having a purpose built drag car insted of a street/race car.

I'm still racing in Thomas at warwick this year but using pump fuel, and 7-10 pounds of boost.😢

Hear are some pic's, from to day, can't wait to get it home to start working on it.
😀

Dasdubber ·

Nice one Aaron - so what will take the priority (the missus' type III or the splitty??) hehehe 😂
Al

colonel mustard ·

Nice!!!

20bkombi ·

Hi Al, it's only fare to finish the type 3, as i already have a vw or two that go. The splitty can wait a little, but still have to start to plan the drive line, roll cage, ect. (wheels, stearing wheel,,,,yeah everything)🤪
I'm thinking 2010

555bug ·

nice, i shouldmhave an ej20t bug by then so that would be a cool run 🙂 best of luck with the build.
Stephen

reub ·

You are friggin nuts dude...and I LOVE IT!!
Can't wait to see the build progress.

JVLRacing ·

You NUTBAG😂

RISKYBUG ·

hehehehe looks like fun
i love you other kombi mate 👍

typethreeking ·

Aaron, looks the goods, with the weight difference between the bay and the split the n/a 20b should still go pretty well but still cant wait to see the finished project when it turbo and a nice 800hp, should make a interesting ride!!Make sure becks t3 is ready for warwick, the grudge run is on!!

vassy66T1 ·

Aaron that will be very cool!!

Are you going the whole hog and tubbing the rear for some big slicks and dumps it on its guts ... whatever you do I am sure it will be an excellent result 😎

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

Mate now I will have to get some more funds to buy some bigger go fast bits seeing as you are going to get lighter LOL

All motor.... bay vs split....... VW vs Rotary........

dangerous ·

"this set up won't have much power using the original plenum and throttle body"

Apparently that dude with the 9.4 second A/M mazda down south uses the stock manifold. (!)

colonel mustard ·

I belive there are people who port the stock manifolds with good results. 🙂 thats what I've heard on the mazda streets

20bkombi ·

I'm guessing a nut or nut bag is good?? 😂

Finally got the bus home to meet the vw family,
As usual it needs more work than i first thought, thats ok, I'm still excited. I think the youre right , the rear end will be the largest amount of work. I have about 4 designes that im working on. The motor and box will have to be able to be removed seperatly, but still will be tied in to the rollcage as well as the torsion beam. Thinking coilovers insted of previous air bags so i can adjust the spring rate. Dangerous has a pare of 28 x 9 slicks that i may use which should fit under the guards.
Picking up a 68 front end and the old box and axels tommorrow. Only the front end will be used with a disk brake up grade. Rear will have disks to.

The mazda 'sheriff' has run 9.4s on alcahol, but is a p/p and has aftermarket plenum and a single 3.5 - 4 inch throttle, making around 400rwhp. I will port the 20b manifold in this engine, un like the current 20b turbo that i left stock.
There is heaps of alloy that can be removed from the upper and lower manifolds, Ive done this with my old 13bt setup.
I guess that it slould make around 300hp
Brennden, we should swich buses then your young bus may have a chance,,,, 'big fella'😂😂

Hay Troy, Bec said bring it on!!!!

Thanks for the positive feed back guys, being non vw powerd and all, as you are all such vw enthusiasts.😀

colonel mustard ·

Rota's and VW's... to two favorite automotive things!

What do you run a 13bt in???? What does the family of cars consist of??? 🙂

20bkombi ·

1984 series 4 rx7 13b turbo engine was originally in the black bus which made 187hp@ wheels
Then i rebuilt it, which i large extend ported and a T04B turbo 280hp

Then i pulled it down to bridge port and a TA51 turbo 403hp 13.2 @ 103mph 1/4mile

Then 20b n/a 201hp 41mm throttle body

Then 20bt T04E turbo 430hp stock block 16psi 12.1 @ 118mph 1/4 and 7.63 @ 91mph 1/8

Then 20bt TA45 turbo bridge port C16 fuel 570hp 6.89 @ 102.7mph 1/8

My family

65 type 3 notch deluxe blue (toby) 1500
65 type 3 notch deluxe yellow (sally) 1500
66 type 3 notch greeny brown (gordon) 1600 originally was going to be 13bt race car
66 type 3 square green (rusty) 1600

2000 T4 transporter (dan the van) 2L
56 kombi no name yet will be 20b n/a race car.

have owend others to, but no longer alive.😊

colonel mustard ·

Nice collection. good to see some are still original! Where do you find the space????
Im guessing you work with cars for a living?

Question... isnt a series 4 post 1985?? I thought 84 for still series 3... and I didnt think any aus delivered series 3 were 13bturbo...??? I may be wrong 🙂

hellbugged ·

..........nicest bloke one could ever hope to meet...........BUT definately "nut bag" Aaron, sorry 😍

for sure you will do the ol splittie justice and will be all kudos to you again, can't wait to see it progressing

exhibit A...

20bkombi ·

Sorry wrong key, yes your right 86-88 FC series 4

colonel mustard ·

JMOBFC!!!!!! nice. A year at mazda wasn't a complete waste for me then 🙂
Id love a rotary beetle... or... an sa22c. too expensive for me. one day though... 🙂 I really respect what you do, its awesome

20bkombi ·

Gee... thanks Daimo, I would have to say the same for you, and as for the nuts, well,, somethings got to hold the front of the kombi down.😂

Jason, I have a bouble block 4 car gararge and a 2 bay car port still not enough roofing.

I'm a cabinetmaker by trade, motor homes, 40-60ft cruisers, house hold cabinets and owned a shop for 2 years. I'm self taught for all automotive stuff (and spelling). I've worked at mazfix for 9 months but didn't lern anything new apart from sales. Still doing other engine convertions and rotary rebuilds from home. Also do courier driving.

Why not join the dark side, and make make what you want?

The splittie better be kudos, after all the work i'll do.😀

reub ·

I'd so love to put a 20b in a bug - maybe mid mounted even... maybe in vwrx even (already have the porsche box in there).

Really like your work dude, particularly the wheel stands in a kombi - something you'd last expect to see them from👍

colonel mustard ·

a 20b is a bug would be INSANE. and scary as anything. look forward to meeting you at warwick this year Aaron. I Took some photos of the black bay last year I think. 🙂

Dasdubber ·

Need inspiration?

Not set up for the drags but cool nonetheless.
Al

westi ·

nice.
always a fan.
but enough with the chit chat, get cutting.
i can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Stanley ·

Great stuff Aaron. Will look forward to this build up. Hopefully you'll stay with the same colour scheme.
I must admit your bus has made me look at rotors differently.

I even let Ben bring his over now....although it has to stay out of the yard....small steps..😁

20bkombi ·

Sorry readers, I'm not alowed to spend much time or money on the bus until i've finished bec's type3 and done some more on the house renovations. So I laid tiles for two days and worked on the type3. Still working on my brothers 78 bay , EJ20 convertion, 2L auto ect.

I'll have to sort all running gear, tyre hight, body hight, wheel track front and rear, engine/box position, fuel tank position, rollcage, suspension location, all has to be done befor i start work. I don't want to redo much on this on this bus, unlike the last one. Want to plan for future upgrades, if posible.
I love different ideas so don't be afraid to post them up.

Thats a very tough looking bus alan. One of the best i've seen, pity it's not for the drags.

Thinking of mat green and mat cream on top, stock front rims cream, a bit retro, mabe???
Stanley, glad to see your comming around. Hows your son's kombi going? Send him round and we'll bolt on what's missing😂 I'll have to see his set up, and go for a spin.

vassy66T1 ·

I'd like to think that a later upgrade might even include a blown big block Rodeck ... I'd like to see a 7sec pass out of a splittie.
You can't have too much speed!

20bkombi ·

7's are still posible with a rotary, but that's to fast for me. Only looking for high 10's to start then someware around 9's later. Shame on you!, v8?? rotary😍

colonel mustard ·

way too fast.... but cool as.

Boostn ·

Aaron can you send me some of your crack, it must be good stuff !! HaHa

love it, tubb it hard, and give it that old skool pp sound.

aaron any progress with becks type 3???

20bkombi ·

Not yet troy, I will be pulling out her engine and 010 auto this weekend. I'll strip the box and replace all the clutches, band and planetary gears with audi 200turbo items. I want to try and make a trans brake aswell. As for the engine, it'll just get bolt on's (turbo, wastgate ex-manifold ect.)

Your date with matty would be getting closer, yeah!👍

Is this the notch Aaron?

20bkombi ·

This is bec's type 3
Cosmo 13B turbo, series 6 RX7 brakes, and 2L kombi auto.

Turbo54 ·

WOW! cool combination.
Love to see it go.
T54

Stanley ·

how good would that look as a woody.
C'mon Aaron your a cabinet maker. Would be easy for a man of your talents

20bkombi ·

That would be cool Stanley, mabe when i'm a silver nomad and take up long boarding again.😊

T25Turbo ·

Go Aaron! 😎

Seen the black Kombi run at warwick 07, spine tingling stuff.

Love any fast kombi, let alone one that can blow the doors off a Porsche.

Respect.

Stanley ·

what's doing Aaron?

Any news on the split or wagon?

polak ·

hellbugged wrote:..........nicest bloke one could ever hope to meet...........BUT definately "nut bag" Aaron, sorry 😍

exhibit A...

When i first met Aaron i said to myself "surely he doesnt drive this thing..." nicest, quietest guy you'll meet but then turns into an animal when he gets into the bus!!! hahaha 😂😂

still couldnt get over how much u spun the tires on the rim at warwick Aaron, wasnt one of them 180 degrees and the other one almost all the way around? from memory the one that spun the most was the drivers side.....

twoguns ·

mate... look forward to seeing the progession of this.

what better way than to travel the 1/4ml in a split. 😎

hey i mucked around a few years ago and drew the below. you wanna use it as a template? 😂

20bkombi ·

Had these parts on order for the black bay, so will now be used for the split (fuel pump and efi reg)

Dasdubber ·

It was pretty chilly on the gold coast today Aaron, are you sure the pump didn't look a little more like this?

hehehe

dangerous ·

ALOTALOVE?!
Not with that pea shooter!!!

20bkombi ·

😂😂😂😂

This makes me laugh every time!!!

Thats ok, i drive a fast car to make up for it. (wank wank wank)

Just quietly, thinking of buying this turbo Garrett GT47
Maybe for warwick

This turbo just made 821hp on 20b methanol
car weight is 2200 pounds 8.10 168mph (660hp pump fuel)

Which car to put it on?

I'm still laughing 😂😂😂

reub ·

Love the way you think dude - as for that turbo - WOW

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

Just remember your poor lil old gear box now Aaron..... I can hear it moaning from my house LOL

20bkombi ·

I've got my thinking cap on, well, this is just a thorght to save albins from getting all my money, and they told me i could still brake there AGB 11.5 diff.

So here it is!!!

2L kombi bellhousing or s5 rx7
Porsche G64 6sp gearbox stoping at the pinion retainer(no diff housing as all)
9'' diff with yoke joining to porsche pinion shaft, which can be machined down and a slide on flange.

you have to have an imagination because $23000 doesn't cone easy.

dangerous ·

Hmmmmmm.
That could work.
Try Harrop for a comlpete 9" IRS diff.
Aussie made.

Might have to dream up how and where to carefully position the input shaft hole?!

You could join the "cut-off pinion shaft" with the 9" pinion spline,
by using a simple spilned sleeve.

May have to roll the gearbox section over a little
to clear the inputshaft and diff's ring gear.

vassy66T1 ·

What ever car you put it in Aaron just make sure the brakes are outstanding 😵‍💫

polak ·

you guys seriously spin me out 🤪🤪

20bkombi ·

My neighbour has a 9'' which i can get the sizing. May be able to run the input shaft still through but underneith the diff, because of tyre size and the lowered bus. Yes i thaught the box may have to tilt a little and alinment of the pinion has to be perfect.
Thaught a pinion retainer plate and bellhousing plate large enough to frame them together and suport the diff housing inside.

Ive been building bec's type 3 the last few weeks (members rides) http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=76445

Dasdubber ·

Not sure if you've seen this thread already or not - only a few photos but worth a look:
http://ultimateaircooled.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=4713.0

20bkombi ·

I'll try and fit it befor warwick. Just need to make a new manifold and exhaust. This is not a priority.

1 2L WRX
2 TA 45 430hp 20b
3 gt 45 570hp 20b
4 gt 47 821hp 20b (not my engine)

Stanley ·

put the big one on.....😁

vassy66T1 ·

Did that come off a B-double prime mover ?? 🤪

vwsteve ·

So when is enough power actually enough power..........😂
dum question😂

polak ·

we have a 2009 Iveco Stralis 560HP and i can tell you that turbo is not far off!! hahaha thats frikken nuts Aaron!🤪
vassy66T1 wrote:Did that come off a B-double prime mover ?? 🤪

typethreeking ·

nice aaron, cant wait to take it for a drive with that sucker on the car, not that it went bad before..

20bkombi ·

Whats with my photo's?

i'll try some new ones

I found a home for this little fella😂

Not finished yet, still need to mount the wastgate, exhaust, and refit the race pipe.

Should be finished tomorrow, cant wait.

colonel mustard ·

So.... Is that the largest turbo you could get in there, without changing everything? Because it looks like it!!! Looks like the camera needs flash!
Looks really good dude!!!

20bkombi ·

Year, not much room left. lucky its all solid mounted.

$50 camera phone,,,sorry.

colonel mustard ·

are you cutting off the 3 supports once the piping is welded solid, Aaron?

vassy66T1 ·

Wow Aaron!!!!
I am thinking a 10 speed roadranger gearbox might be the only way to go ...

westi ·

now were talking, look at the size of that bad boy,put it on bec's car.lol

dangerous ·

Actually that "bad boy" is even biger than it looks.

The compressor out let is 3",
and the inlet snout takes a 6" air cleaner.

Turbine outlet has a 4.5" pipe, but really needs to be 4.75".

That engine bay will colapse because its in a vacuum with the lid shut!

20bkombi ·

The 3 braces are off , the 62mm gate is on and the 3'' exhaust with 2.5'' muffler is refitted.

I've done a fat tune arround 10.5 to 11.5 -1 air fuel mix to 6500rpm. It's hard to hold the monster back after 5000rpm using the brakes in third at only 10 pounds

Idling @ 1500-1850rpm

With 2 manifold leeks at the moment,
It makes 3psi @2700 and 10 at 3800rpm

Rev limit 9250, cut at 9700 to be reached. I just can't stop driving it, to work to the shops, for the fun of it.😂

Will try booking the dyno next friday for a safer tune, for me and the engine. (around 18psi pump fuel)

colonel mustard ·

Pics of the engine bay.... 🙂 Pleassssssseeee!
