I think ALL buggies that have been registered can be registered again...
this may be different in each state..

the buggy may have to have been continously registered
??
as its Now illegal to cut the chassis as was done back then

there was someone making NEW shortened chassis a while back.. not sure who it was...
but the chassis did look like a VW chassis...
everything was correct...
these would be able to be registered I believe...
some of the Buggy guys will probably answer tomorrow...

A Tow'd is unlikely to be able to be regstered as a new registration under the present rules as, among other things, the rego system doesn't like homemade, one off, tubular steel frames.

A complete genuine American made Meyers Tow'd has a frame made from bore casing. Most of the Australian made Tow'ds were sold as a body only and a frame was made by the builder.

If I remember rightly the only Tow'ds in Australia that are registered were registered years ago before the rules changed.

You could try going down the Individually Constructed Vehicle route, but I don't recommend it as it's an exercies in masochism, frustration, time and expense, but good luck if you do.

If you could get a Tow'd to fit onto an unmodifed full length Beetle pan without looking weird, you may well be able to register it. Unmodified being the key word here.

Alternatively you may be able to use an old shortened pan with a registration history.

Regardles of what you do, consult with an engineer first.
