Hello everyone,

My car, Golf4 1.6, recently experienced leaking engine oil. I've brought the car to dealer for health check and eventually found the leak is from front crank seal.

The dealer charge me 4x hour labour for the repair, is it a reasonable cost?

Thank you.

i think he would have taken the gearbox out??
i got quoted $1000 to 1500 for a rear oil seal in my old vn v6 as you have to pull the engine out!

being an east west setup, and being a front oil seal not a rear, the poor fella would have had the equivalent labour of a timing belt service to get behind the harmonic balancer, undo an engine mount and remove timing belt sproket along with slipping off the timing belt to get to the oil seal. and eventually realigning the belt ova the cam gears all in the right timing and what not, with the limited space.

it seems fair, you should have got a timing belt service while he had it all off too so you didn't have to get that labour done again, depending on how soon it was due anyways, but ah well.
