I went to go start the car this eveing and it cranked over for a couple of seconds but then i turned the key off and went to start it again and all I got was click, and thats it, so again and click,

not sure whats wrong all the leads in the motor are connected but it's too cold outside to have a look at the starter motor properly, tommorow morning i'll ring the NRMA and see what they can do but i'd like to maybe provide some suggestions on whats wrong.

Batteries don't like cold weather, and thick, viscous oil in cold weather. Since you got a flew cranks, then a click, good chance you battery is flat or dead.

Solved the problem today, checked the starter motor by using the good old idiots book for VW's and had the solelinoid replace today and it's starting better than before cold or not.
