Speedometer cable issue

hey hey all,
I have just replaced the speedometer cable in my 74' L-bug, because the old one had snapped. The one ive just put in is brand new (German made so you know its good 😂).
But lately ive noticed its been making this whirring sound, and the needle in the speedometer has been pointing to the right speed but its wavering up and down around the point.

Any ideas whats wrong?

I've had this problem in the past. I just pulled the speedo apart cleaned and regreased all the little gears and now it works perfectly again. The wirring noise in mine gradually got louder and louder until the speedo siezed and this snapped my speedo cable. I would try to sort this sometime soon as I would hate for the same thing to happen to you with a brand new cable.
