Always used kero in mine... there's still the odd servo around that will sell it from a bowser (depending on the size of the washer you could need a fair bit)

Just ensure if your parts washer has a pump that the pump is able to pump flammable liquid.. otherwise you can end up with flames.

But as some of you may remember i just used the dishwasher to clean my parts 😉

Before:

During:

After:

Now:

Just dont tell the lady of the house 😉 only used water and detergent that was only soap (cheap stuff from woolies) to stop any issues with it rusting etc.

good idea washing oil down the drain huh... probably wouldn't tell the EPA either.

Most parts washers say not to use flammable liquid in them.
I preferred not to have 40L of flammable liquid in a workshop area.

I used a parts washer fluid from ERS in Vic, which is not flammable. They also took the dirty stuff back.

HI all I have been using a dishwasher for untold years it has just died i used to pump it to a 200 litre drum then take it to the tip they have a toxic drum site never use finish type tablets with alloy as it turns grey but good on tinwear etc

I know a mechanic who uses diesel oil in the parts washer, because it is less flammable than kerosene, lasts for years, penetrates very well if parts are left to soak, is less irritating to his skin and seems to tend to filter better.

He has fitted an after market oil filter to his washer, which is replaced at need.

I'm with Ian the Castrol parts cleaner is brilliant,a lot better than kero and more cost effective also. The ERS product is also very good.

you wash oil down the drain every time you do dishes. Maybe not that much in one hit though. Dishwasher did a good job, maybe I'll have to get one. It would almost be worth setting up an old one in the garage 😀

Kero would be a fire hazard. Wouldnt want to be anywhere near the workbench or within kooee of a place you might use a grinder. I made a home made parts cleaner out of a 44, laundry sink and elec fuel pump. I had diesel in it. It works OK as a cleaner but you get the diesel residue. But that was OK because it comes off easy with pressure pack degreaser. Probably false economy in the end.

On a side note, the pump on my parts washer has died?
where do you get a new one from?
I've tried the shops that sell the parts washers brand new, to find out where to get a pump from but they where useless.
Cheers

Flintstones: normally these are imported so best option is to contact the warrenty department of the part washer ppl (normally here in AU) they will send you one out..
