don't worry, the gas bottle was empty and soon to be returned to the camping shop as it wasn't what I needed.
We M4ed, M5ed and Humed it to Mittagong and had some lunch.
Then we topped up the tank and headed for Wombeyan caves.
The roads in were recently graded and a lot of fun to drive on. The extra fun bit was the fact that signs instructed you to beep your horn coming up to blind corners as the road was narrow. My co-pilot thought this was great (although she still wanted to do it the next day on the freeway!). There was some traffic coming the other way, a few 4wds, two motorbikes and a truck, but for the most part the road was clear and quite fun to drive. I spent most of the time in 2nd gear having fun getting sideways on the way out of the corners. The weather was beautiful and there was plenty of wildlife around...
After 66km and an hour or so we got down the campsite...
We set up camp and I realised I'd left a crucial part of the stove at home so we cooked dinner on the filthiest hotplate in history, but we ate. After a few breakdowns and mishaps due to tiredness (the kids not me) we hit the sack around 9pm.
The next morning we were up early, read 6am and into it. Some healthy breaky for us...
and a walk to wash up and things were mostly happier. Here are some of our neighbours...
Someone needed a belt to keep his jacket on.
and then had a bad case of beanie hair.
We were going to go for a wander round the caves, but it was getting close to midday and one person complained loudly about going for a walk, so I thought it best to pack up and head off. We headed for Taralga, topped up the tank again and then for Goulburn where we had some lunch.
Our backseat co-driver asked to go look at some racing cars and who was I to say no. When we got to Wakefield park their was test and tune for Improved production, Fvee and some other cool cars.
After that, we were in hurry to get home which was just as well coz everyone was worn out.
We had a great time and the only casualty was some 3yo tears and one exhaust mount. The roads going into and out of Wombeyan are great at the mo and the scenery is breathtaking. If you got a few days and the patience I highly suggest taking a trip down. We'll definitely be going again. I took lots of pics, if you want to see some more click here...
