Terriable noise also comig from speedo !! Maybe it's stuffed !!!

Yeah I kept having that happen in my bug. Kept breaking the cable at the wheel end and I couldn't see why. When I took the cable right out (for about the 3rd time mind you), I drove the car and placed my finger over the bearing at the rear of the speedo and found that it wasn't turning. Each time I was putting a new one in, I'd just start to move and it was breaking. $70 to get the whole speedo overhauled (cleaned, tested, calibrated, repaired ceased bearing) which wasn't too bad. Sounds like perhaps the bearing in yours is sticking and breaking cables too.
I learnt the hard way too!
Put your new cable on the speedo via the luggage compartment & then try to turn it with your fingers. You'll soon see if the speedo has siezed!

samw thing happened with mine, $70 dollars to have it fully overhauled. Place on evans rd in brisbane did mine.
