Testing compression on a 1300 engine, 3 cylinders measure at 120-125, one measures at 180?

What causes this? Took off the cover and valves seem to be moving ok.

Cheers

Hi

Could be a lot of carbon buildup.

I'll have to pull the heads off and check it out i guess,

Also, a 1300 single port on a 1500 gearbox, good or not?

Drove my car around a year or so as exactly that after I finished high school... both normally have 180mm clutch etc, and the 1500 gearing seemed fine for the 1300.

Just make sure the starter is correct for the flywheel you have.

I have heard that 1200/1300 engines dont work well on the 1500/1600 gearbox thats all. Yes i'll be running the larger flywheel and most likely buy a new starter.

Hmmm... 1600 I can understand - IRS is the first big issue, also much taller gearing that a 1300 might have trouble pulling.

1500's were swing axle just like a 1300, and although the gearing is taller it's nowhere near as bad as an IRS box. Like I said worked fine for me until I could afford a bigger donk.

You might have trouble fitting the later flywheel and clutch setup into a 1500 box - it's do-able, but the throwout bearing and arm would most likely have to be changed to the later setup too...

The engine in this auction, the engine number reads as a 1600, but why does it have the twin petrol heating pipes? I thought this was only on 1300 twin port engines? Could it be that it has 1300 top end? Or did some 1600's come with this too? Its AB 1600 replacement block engine number.

Thanks

AB were the stock 1300 tiwn ports in aussie 71-73 pov pak bugs
its more than likely been rebuilt as a 1600, its certainly got a 1600 34pict3 carb on it
not to many bugs these days still have the original blocks

a 1300 mated to a 1500 box will work

not the quickest thing around but gets by,
my ex had a 68 bug that came with an early 1300sp in it
