Hi all,

I have a set of 6" alloy wheels that I'd like to put on my 69 Beetle, but I'm a bit concerned that they'll be too wide to be legal.

When fitted, the tyres (205) stick out from under the guards by about half an inch.

The old girl isn't registered yet either, so it will need an inspection before it hits the road for proper.

So does anyone have any advice? I'm thinking that I may have to stick with stock.

By the way, I'm planning a move to Newcastle soon and I've seen that there's a guy on AVD that does pink slip inspections. Can anyone remember who this is?

Cheers!

Hi Barls,
Yeah, I seemed to remember that the name was Ian but couldn't find him here again.
Any advice on wheels and tyres, guys?

Hi the,
My daughter's Bug came with an Engineers Certificate to say that the 215/70/15s were in accordance with and applicable to the NSW rego requirements. This certificate also included other body and engine mods as well...so it does look as though you will need to get an E.C to show the friendly plod should you be asked why your tyres are bigger than normal.

Yes keep it as standard as possible to get it past rego, and concentrate on making everything work properly. Make sure your brakes, suspension and steering are perfect with no slop. Make sure the engine is stock, all tinware and hoses in place, no oil leaks and the underside is degreased and cleaned.

You can always modify it later.
