I've never noticed it until now, however after a recent inspection, the beetle was marked as "not returning to centre" (67 K&L with VVD disc brake kit and a rebuilt steering box). Nothing old or worn was used in the front end

I've checked this while driving and it does return to centre albeit quite slowly (50-100m)..

What could be causing this?.. The car is running 205/17 on the front and 215/17 on the back (with 75mm spacers rear).. It had a complete alignment when the wheels were put on..

My thoughts?

Camber/Toe needs adjusting
Worm in steering box too tight
Track is wrong geometrically with the tyre/spacer combo
As it is a completely new front end assembly (by Boris at VVD) perhaps the whole setup is stiff and needs to be run in..

Thanks..
Rob

If it was a super I would say it was lowered and you lost your caster.

But I would say either the track is wrong or loss of castor.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

As Bix has said or the k/l pin assys were assembled too tight, but Boris shouldn't have done that, doesn't hurt to ask him, maybe it was border line tight, and a bit more caster is all it needs, is it lowered in the front, with a bit of rake f-r ?
