How can i tell how much i have left in my brake shoes, have drums on the rear and one of them is making a gauging noise like somethin is tearing metal away.

Is the only way to check it removing the drum and having a look?

Cheers Josh

Check on the back of the hub (that's where it is on mine though someone told me some have it on the front so you may have to remove the wheel), anyway on mine there is a double rubber plug that you remove to get at the adjusting mechanism, the other hole is a viewing hole and using a torch shine the light into the hole and you can see the thickness of the lining,.
