Had a phone call from Mastercard [in Pakistan?? lol]
asking if I was overseas, and if I had just used My mastercard twice in the last 15 minutes.. I said No..
He asked if i was going overseas... No
He said My mastercard a/c had been cancelled and I would receive new cards in the mail...
which I have... one anyway...
All the other things He said.... I have no idea what it was... lol
but there was nothing on the statement... lol..
so, I have no idea what really happened...
I think He may have asked if i had bought items on ebay from overseas... which I do all the time...
but always pay with paypal...

I think what Lee is trying to say to Birchall in Birchall-speak is that the Mastercard fraud tracker has picked up a suspicious pattern of transactions and rang him to ask if they are legit.
If they believe his story, the transactions will disappear.
But then Lee is also unsure if the phone call was targeting him as a potential scam victim by a hoax caller. Funny, either way, he was!

which bank can't help ANZ bank?
If they issued a new card, its hard to see how it would be a con.
Either way, ANZ card services (or even the local branch) should be able to confirm why a new card was issued.
Id ask to speak to the manager and explain that you are not getting the answer you need.
Also, I wouldnt have thought that Mastercard would issue an ANZ plastic. So the information will be in the computor somewhere.

It is as it is - If you didnt enjoy today, you've missed the opportunity.
One of the newest scams is they (scammers) call you and say that there has been 'unusual activity' on your card, then proceed to get you to identify yourself. They confirm that your card is number XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX with expiry XX/XX (they already know this as it was stolen from a database). They then ask you to confirm your DOB, your address (which they already know, because it's easy to work out with online white pages and other personal info), and then ask for the CCV, the three digits on the back of the card.
The CCV is the only thing they dont have, and the minute you tell it to them, it is entered in to a web portal and your CC is charged for a string of purchases almost immediately until it is refused.
Then the real MC people ring you, usually 24 hours later, ask you what happend, and finish by saying 'you f*cking knob' (or nice words to that effect) and have you on record saying that you voluntarily gave your CCV over the phone to an unidentified caller, and MC are therefore not liable for the purchases; you are.
Moral of the story, if any calls you purporting to be from the bank or CC company, ask for their name and 1800 number so you can call them back as you are busy.
My friend got a call yesterday morning to say their Police and Nurses card has been cancelled as someone has gotten their details (god knows how), and has been trying to make large purchases with it. How are they doing it? Considering they never use this credit cars, it was an account they opened to pay of the photos for their wedding album and that's it!

It's because of all of the above and a whole lot more reasons that my MC has a maximum of $1,000. This limits my liability to something that I can handle.
Although paypal may be more secure, we got done for $2K as someone hacked into our paypal account and withdrew funds from our linked bank account - obviouly noted it straight away and the bank cancelled the transactions (4 separate ones) before they actually went through.....fraud sucks.
