please excuse the fumbled dumb-arsed stalling & general shakyness of my driving,,, i can guarantee the video does not do this thing justice at all,,, it really is stiupid fast acceleration rate
:-)
ok,,, sooo,,,, who wants one???
:-)
Oh & that`s only 2nd gear :-)
mm looks OK ,
don't forget big brother may be watching
Crazy man ...... but we LOVE it dude.

another short vid , this time of it fangin around my dad`s race track
& yeah i went a bit deep into that corner, running a little wide , but still, you get that :-) they are 20 year old road race slicks :-)
everyone had a ball tho, 6 people took it for spins (inc my dad) all up about 60+ laps for the afternoon
damn good shake down test with absolutely nothing breaking, nothing falling off,,, nothing went wrong, i`m just a little stoked about it all really,,,
& dad said--> "I Think It`s Brilliant",,, how`s that??? :-)

140hp @ the wheels & it weighs in at 230kgs
:-)
pretty sweet dude, looks like a lot of fun! is it getting any body sheets or just staying a chassis?
VW - helping put oil back into the ground for over 60 years
Thanks mate, & yeah i`ll be fitting some side sheets & a bit of a bonnet thing in thin alloy, bonded & riveted & i`ve already made-up some mudguards cause the Ipswich/west moreton auto club want mudguards before they let me run in the autocross, so i`m getting there,,, just that i`m not the best sheet-metal worker around & my usual sheety (Dale) has gone out-back for a few weeks work so i`m fumbling my way through the cutting , bending, folding & rolling of thin alloy sheets & brackets at the moment :-( it`s probably gonna look dicky after i`m done :-(... Hope Dale gets back soon to fix my crap :-)
Matty B,,, i gotta phone you when we run this at dad`s track again,,, you`re gonna love a fang in it :-) just remember to bring your brown cordoroy pants :-)
Is it coming to a Mt Cotton near us shortly??
Looks like one crazy drive. 👍
Count me in Miniman. Looks like she's got some poke......race ya!!!
Must bring baja to your dads place 🙂
Note to self: need to find brown cordoroy's.....(noisey pants never my thing)....maybe at Vini's.

Vassy, yeah i`m hoping to run at lots the local hillclimbs, Mt Cotton, Noosa, Mt Cootha, & Grafton at least,,, i`m going to try to get runs in at Leyburn & Pitsworth & gatton sprint meetings & if Speed on tweed ever runs again i`ll have an entry form ready for that too
i`ve already been talking with Jeff from the Lakeside Track-Attack to see if they`ll let me fang around Lakeside too,,, can`t wait for that one tho,,, i can see it going under the minute there quite easy :-)
Morgan Park would surely be a good track for this thing too
geared to well over 160mph
I`d like to build 30x of them & sling 3/4 sized polycarbonate mini bodys onto them all & have our own race series,,, anyone interested? maybe we could make rear engined ones too & fit 3/4 sized beetle bodys onto them & have the age old """ mini vs beetle""" fight all over again :-)
Just have another look at that 2nd video i posted, (the one from dads race track) --> but this time take note of the sound of it just as the vid starts to play,,, it`s doing about 8500rpms before i back-off for the corner,,, & also take note of the speed, not mucjing around hey?
now think about this for a sec--> this thing actually starts REALLY going fast at about 8000rpms,,, it`s happier upwards from there to 12000rpms & i`m only in 2nd gear there,,, think about it for a minute... yeah??? :-) :-) ;-) It`s truely a VERY VERY fast car
& at 230kgs it`s accelleration is blistering & also stops & turns sooper dooper well too
:-)
could you design a kit for em?
hey pete, yeah i`m looking at "Maybe" making up about 20 or 30 of them,,, talking with a few different people about polycarbonate 3/4 sized mini body shells at the moment, & i`ve already had words with CAMS for type approval for our own race series ,,, i`ll have the jig for the frames shortly,,, although the final design of the frames will be slightly sturdier than the one shown in the video with full cage etc etc etc so they`ll be a little heavier but not by much.
Talking about 2x classes,,, one with std R1 donk with 160hp,,, & the 2nd class with turbos :-)
Having a 3/4 sized beetle body shell in the mix would be just classic tho ey? :-)
i do like this top work im a bit of a bike nut as well this little machine is sweet

what sort of cash?

And I thought that was some chainsaw in the forest that we could hear....
😂😂
8500-12000 hmmmm mate that sounds bloody leathal, especially with all those trees around and front wheel drive. How is it for torque steer? And brakes???

Isn't that basically the same market as the Aussie Legends? Honestly I can't see you knocking off the established Aussie Legends race series, and I wouldn't have thought that there would be enough potential competitors for two competing bike-engined mini-car race series. Especially since your car wouldn't be eligible in Aussie Legends races, and vice versa. Good luck with it though if your business case stacks up.
Pete, we`ve got a build cost price for the basic concoction/construction at the moment, but that will all change once we sort the full-cage frame & body assy, so i`m keeping it under wraps till wev`e got the first one done & approved (if they approve it) however i can tell you that they will cost lees than a new Aussie Legend car
Matty, there is bugga-all torque-steer i think mainly cause we`ve got the geometry pretty right & also because they`re so damn lightweight,,, it just goes forwards with-out an issue, no inertia or suspension problems to sway it either way,,, evryone who has driven this oine has said the same thing & are all surprised how easy it is to drive & how well it handles & the lack of torque steer etc etc,,, it`s all good feedback for me (obviously) :-)
waveman,,, i`m not really aiming at competeing against the Aussie-legends (except maybe on the price of them) because it`s a totally different ball-game,,, i`d like to believe that ours will be way faster & handle better,,, have you ever driven an Aussie-Legend???,,, they`re very twitchy & unstable little farkers,,, weight 450kgs & have approx 120hp,,, nice ,,, but ours are probably going to land on the 300jg weight & have 160 in N/A form & looking at topping out the power at 300hp for the turbo version
now when you add the fact that our cars are far more stable & more nimble in the corners,,, well,,, time will tell i spose
I have to say tho,,, we`re not really trying to make a business out of it like Phil Ward has,,, we`re more attempting to get people into them for the sheer fun & enjoyment of driving such a damn quick little car , capable (hopefully) of keeping up with GT3-Porsches etc for far far less money than many race cars on the tracks at the moment
Just look at how much a formula-ford costs,,, or an Aussie_legend? let alone a full race preped GT3-Porsche,,, not cheap hey?
If we can punch these things out at under $25K then we`re into a damn good little battle agains some seriously expensive , very fast race cars hey>???
& """IF""" we did a vee-dub version, then yes it would have to be rear/mid engined,,, but i expect them to be a little less stable, with initial push into corners & then power oversteer comming out,,, probably a fair bit more twitchy than the FWD version, but at least with some decent throttle control & a good suspension set-up some people may get some good honest quality traction out of corners,,,, something that the FWD ones won`t actuall have "as much" of -- i expect,,, so the beetle version "Could" be a bit better if set-up well & driven well... depending on the tracks we use :-)
it`s all good feed-back tho guys,,, i`d like you all to keep throwing info & questions at me cause i`m feeding it all back to my sugar mummy (the man with the money who "potentially" "May" "Possibly" "Might" back this program , so please do let me have your thoughts & don`t hold back,,, i can take it,,, :-)
this sunday is this cars first official "meeting" at Willowbank Autocross track... Champions way just before QR
if anyones interested to come watch me "play" with it,,, then don`t hesitate to come along,,, come say hi,,, i won`t bite :-) unless something goes wrong with the car,,, or if they wont let me run it that is :-) :-) :-) :-)👍👍
That thing is insane mini man well done
Hope your plans come together...
Hamish
Sounds like they are easy to drive. That means you've done something right mate.
Imagine ......cheaper AND faster than a Legend 😍
Keep up the good work, we want some QUALITY vids this time from Pillowbank.

we should have some "external" videos cranking, but i`ll try & sneak my helmet cam on without them noticing :-)
I reckon you need to make them RWD (if you want to tempt any trackday type people). When you ask people about their dream driving car no-one will say a FWD anything. Just my opinion 😀
I've driven the UQ formula SAE car. CBR600 motor in a light weight small frame. It accelerated very hard and was always fighting for traction, but that's what made it fun. It had a motec ECU (I think) which was running adjustable traction control. It was doing 0-100kph in high 3 seconds, fighting traction the whole way.

yeah i understand that Wes,,, totally ,,, & yet at the same time i can say to you ( & anyone else who cares) & with all Honesty--> that i was the fastest 2-wheel drive vehicle at Willowbank autocross last weekend
the only 2 cars with faster lap times than me were the 2x Mitsu EVO-9s (& they`re not std ones either)
But the autocross is dirt,,, & is a standing start ,,, it`s pretty hard to beat the 4x4 turbo rally cars on standing start dirt track in """ANY""" 2-wheel-drive vehicle yeah???
well , i havn`t even really got into full swing, havn`t quite got a handle on it,,, i havn`t raced for nearly 8 years so i`m a bit rusty, & with this thing being so fast,,, well there just isn`t much time to even think let alone work out braking markers etc... but i`m getting there ,,,
3rd fastest lap times of the day on it`s very first outing can`t be too bad no???
However,,, Last weekends meeting did show up some slight problems with regards to driver comfort & confidence in my left-foot-braking style,,, so i need to modify a few things to sort my rythum on the track & i`m correcting them for the next meeting,,, so we`ll see then if i can beat the best at there own game next trip out there.
oh & yes there were a pile of other 4x4 turbo rally cars behind me,,, Wrex`s,,,Stis,,, etc & one VERY VERY quick 4x4 turbo lazer owned by the lovely Cameron freeman
Please forgive me if it seems i`m arguing with you, but i`m definately not meaning too at all,,, & i really mean that,,, i`m simply putting up the facts of how quick this car is (Just the same as you did with your UQ formular SAE car & yes i`ve seen it go at Mt Cotton a number of times & know other guys who have driven it) ,,, if people don`t like front wheel drive cars then that`s their problem :-) some others may want to convert over to the dark-side once they see this thing go,,, some may not,,, i`m not trying to convert the whole world,,, just those who are keen on a very fast, very cost effective,,, very fun race car :-)
i have a DVD now (picked it up last night) of some crappy video footage from that event,,, but i`m struggling to get the video files out of it to edit the crappy bits out & shove what good stuff is left up onto you-tube
seems i need some sort of "converter" ??? anyone got any ideas? It`s a VOB file & seems to have seperate video & (AC-3) audio files if that mneans anything to anyone ????????????
Matt, all that sounds great and we can't question the fact it must be fast, but you are comparing it to cars, not lightweight frames like you have!

Thats awsome! Looks like a blast. i got a little moto in the garrage - so its the best of both worlds. what's something like that cost?
yeah Matty, i totally understand, I really do,,, & yes i have looked at designs for rear drive (both front eng & rear eng) problem is tho , & this is fact, with something "this" small/short to have a front eng with rear drive it becomes too heavy,,, & then a rear drive one would be just all push & wheel-stands
so to have a rear drive (either rear eng or front eng) they become either too heavy or too pushy,,, but hey,,, it`s not hard to make them bigger, longer & heavier if that`s what you really want ,,, i just don`t see them actually being quicker in the club race scene,,, but i may be slightly biased :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
😂 😂 😂

sorry Robbo didn`t get any video footage of the Beetle that was there but he won his class, he did real well. came & had a chat too :-)
Clockwork,,, i spent about $6K on this particular one, but i had most of the mini running gear here already & the R1 donk i got very cheap from Cooky before he sold Brisbane Bike wreckers... the later model donks are far better at $160-180hp & fetch around $3000 ,,, you can grab Cooper"S" disc brake assys pretty cheap brand new these days, a set of rear trailing arms are about $100 & a steering rack from a Formula-Vee is what i used :-)
see there is some vee-dub stuff in this thing after all (well,,,sort-of)
😀
Wheels & tyres can vary in price depending on exactly what you want/need & the coil-over shocks were a $Grand
make up the frame & away you go :-) There`s obviously lots more stuff like fuel tank & brake master cyls & etc etc etc,,, The new one we`re building for CAMS to look at will cost me about $15K plus, but i doubt it will be faster than this thing once we have sorted it :-)
Colin Chapman wasn`t dumb,,,design & build it perfectly --> then take out half the materials :-)
