Again coming here to ask for help.. very sorry!

the problems goes something like this.

The other day whilst replacing the headlight globes and removing an old fog light loom a problem has arisen.

the headlight switch blew, after pulling it apart the section that has died is the rheostat arm..
the headlight section of the switch is fine with no burns or shorts

headlights will not turn on at all and have brand new globes.*this includes dash light*
turning them on via the switch does nothing, nor does pulling the highbeam stalk.

When pulling the stalk a relay is clicking on but there is no light on the dash nor are the headlights coming on at all

so to sum up..

1. I have no headlights low or high

if anyone can shed any light *pardon the pun* it would be appreciated.

nearly all extra lighting is coected to a headlight eather low beam or high beam.WHEN YOU REMOVED THE FOG LIGHT wireing you have shorted out a fuse or 2 retrace the wiering and make sure any exposed wier is wrapped and check all fuses
👍👍😂🙅🥷😬🤓

Its a 74 L

does anyone have a diag/picture of how the plug for the headlight / city light should be... i think they may be wired wrong..

As for the fog light loom i only removed sections that had already been disconnected. and were under the dash

as far as i can tell the left high beam and high beam indicator are on the same circuit so im presuming the problem may start there.

Yes the switch has blown but it was working when u pulled on the indicator stalk/high beam
no fuses are blown either

I have repaired the headlight switch * not advisable as they are very tricky lil bastards to put back together*
and i now have working tail lights as for the headlights i have the left low beam only... when u flick onto high beam nothing happens bar the right indicator turns on...
further to that the front right indicator will not work at any time whether the hazards or normal indicator switch is activated

OK after MUCH work and hair pulling its working again

I removed the rest of the fog light wiring, that made no change

i removed all the lights and cleaned the terminals, - and relocated the earths in the front to a nice new spot and still nothing.. removed a sus looking wire that was spliced into the front indicator to the old alarm system and that fixed the indicator problem. as far as i can tell something in the alarm had shorted out.

i then removed (one by one) all of the connections in the fuse box cleaned/sanded all of them and put it all back together... and headlights work again!

to sum up -

I had plugged the parker lights on one side backwards, this coupled with the rain that i got caught caused the short

the alarm has now been totally disconnected and that solved one problem

all the earth terminals were cleaned and then that solved the rest!
