How do you remove the ball joints from the control arms on a 1975 Super Beetle? There doesn't seem to be enough lip on the bottom where it fits into the control arm to put it into a press plus the shape of the control arm does not help at all.

Hi

They are not tapered, so give them a soak with WD40 etc and they will slide out.

Thanks Steve. My friend machined a collar that just cleared the ball joint's bottom end and anchored onto the wall of the housing. He then managed to remove it with a press.

haha, it can be fun sometimes.

I got mine pressed out at Pedders cause i didn't have access to one. The ball joint that got pressed out managed to get airborn and smashed through their louvered windows haha.

Apparently it was rediculously firm in the arm.
