Hi Guys
1973 beetle, the two steering column switches, how do they work.
The left one is headlight and the right oone is indictors and headlight high beam. Im wiring them up but have no idea how they work lol.
Trev
Trev, sounds like someones retro fitted some mainstream cars steering column into it
12volt bugs never had indicators on the right or a headlight switch on the column
its a european thing to have indicator stalk on the left
maybe put up a pic so we can see what u got?
HAHAHA
jOEL i BEEN STUFFING AROUND WITH THE SITCHES FOR TWO HOURS WITH ME CROW AND MULTIMETER AND TEST STUFF, NOW YOU SAID THAT i WENT OUT AND CHECKED. FRIKKEN HEADLUGHT SWITCH IS IN THE DASH, JUST THE OLD PULL OUT STYLE.
So what are the two steering column switches and how do they work.
RH wipers, LH indicators and hi beam

left one is indicator and highbeam dip
and right side is wipers and washers
on the subject of, is it just me or does anyone else out there have probs with indicator switches always breaking?
ive broken 4 in the last 10 years
sorry i should rephrase.
had them break not broken them
All pretty basic, hi beam switches to earth as mom on switch using brown/wh and common earth with horn. wipers are separate, indicators are common, black with wh and green trace, black/wh, black/green....but get out the wiring diagram to check

New like those Joel will last for years, the early 6V ones are shocking for breaking. If the steering column is too close to the front of the car the horn contacts take out the switches and/or cancelling mech.

I am a bit that way Joel. I have had 4 or 5 break in the last 20 years. The one I have now has lasted quite a while - probably nearly 10 years........ Doh, I bet I have jinxed it now.
From your ole' mate Jeff
they always break the same way too, those 2 arm bits inside snap off
i had a lucky score with a set of NOS german SWF wiper and indicator switches, lets see how these ones last
as a bonus the wiperswitch already has an electronic washer switch installed
I regularly buy new SWF for customer cars, you guy's aren't the only ones.😁
Nothing like a new switch 👍

How does the wiper washer work, up nothing, first click down is low speed and second click is high speed.
Down nothing, intermittant possibility, up 1 low, up 2 high speed, or have I got my ups and downs arse up???

Oh forgot the washer, pull towards wheel, opens a valve, usually ends up leaking in your crotch so go electric.
