I have just broken my portable power saw blade making a Jig to work on my CB ,it is a German saw "Baier" the blade is 175 mm dia costs €52.90 but they are telling me it is + € 100.00 freight does that sound right ?( recon I might go there and pick it up myself not much more) can anyone tell me if this sounds right ?
Why do you need a blade from Germany? what's so special?
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!
The saw is one of the best tools I have ever had, been using it since the 60s cuts angle iron , pipe, RHS ect like a hot knife through butter spins at about 100 rpm if i cant get a new blade i may as well dump it and i dont want to do that Hope this photo comes out .
Those blades are freely available in Australia, any good tool shop should be able to supply them or a dedicated saw blade business, I used to call mine a slow saw blade, I still have my saw but have not used it for ages, if you can't track it down let me know I'll try around here.
They are fairly prone to breaking like that as they are usualy a brittle type of metal to hold the edge on the teeth longer.
Just had another look at your pic, can't say I've seen one with a center hole quite like that, what is the brand of the saw?

The saw is a Baier The centre hole is the problem I have seen Bench mounter saws with a simmilar blade but different centre I could probably get all new teeth cut on the one I have but it would reduce the Dia.by about 25mm and its only 175mm dia now
Theres a place near the Newcastle Markets near the Sandgate cemetery, I have got blades for lots of different applications from there, can't remember their name but they have been there for years, try the yellow pages, I'd be very surprised if they can't help you.

Solid blades are made from High Speed Steel (HSS) which is far from brittle!
Try Henry Bros Saws:

or Chapman Saws

Either one will most likely be able to help.
ArtyP. If they can help, I'm close to Henry's and Chapman's isn't too far so could pick one up for you. Let me know how you go.

If you need it from Germany, then quoted postage cost is too high.
I've had Blaupunkt radios sent for Euro 38 by DHL , would weigh more than your blade.
The place at Sandgate is Tooleys. I go past there twice a day - I can print your picture and call in if that helps. Let me know on here if you like.
From your ole' mate Jeff
Jeff, Toolies is not the place I'm refering to, though they may be able to supply what Arty needs, Toolies are on the Newcastle side of the Sangate lights on the highway, the place I am refering to is on Sandgate rd (turn off the highway at the lights on the corner of Sandgate rd and the highway) they are on the left just after Rural drive, they are specialist saw doctors, been supplying all sorts of blades and servicing them (sharpening etc) for years, great people to deal with.

Oops, sorry about that - I am just a 'tourist' from Port Macquarie. Still happy to call in and have a look for you though, if that is any help.

Found it (Google is your friend) Newcastle Saw Works, 51 Wallsend Rd Sandgate (Sandgate Rd. changes to Wallsend Rd. at Rural drive)

Thanks for that information I have already been to toolies I will call in to the saw works
Another way around it may be to change the centre boss to do away with those 4 lugs, I just went out to look at my old saw and it dosn't have them on it but it always worked fine.

Yeah ditto that, I got a kph speedo from Germany a few weeks back, the seller was dealing in $US and I think the postage was $18US from memory. Something like that, it wasn't much. Speedo was here in about a week or two.
1954 Oval long term project going nowhere
1958 Beetle drag car project
1959 Beetle project I need to sell one day
1969 Squareback
Coincidence but had to drop in there this morning, may pay to take the blade with you and even the center boss, they seem to think that the blade is a "fits all" type though the diameter may be a problem.

Thanks donn I will get in there in the next week and take my saw and the blade with me I will let you know how I got on .
Thanks for your help everyone especially Donn I called into Newcastle Saw Works today they were very good but couldnt help me, I heard back from Germany and theycan now send it to me for €40.00 which is a bit better than 100.00 they first told me its through DHL and it could take a few weeks buts thats ok
great you are sorted. 😵💫

Arty, why don't you get the blade from domestic supplier and I'll cut 4 lug centre in for you ?
cb john, I think the blade diameter is his main problem, though I don't know why they couldn't cut one down, the added cost may have been more than the postage. A wise man would get a couple while he was at it??????????

I did this many times...get slightly bigger blade, cut the centre and the apropriate diameter and have it sharpened...
Thanks John but the amount of trouble to find the right blade maybe have to get the centre hole cut then the slots cut the guy at the Saw service said freight costs from Germany could be a better option at least I know that it will be exactly the right blade
