I guess I like others can only watch and be amazed at what these splitties are now fetching. In the States, in a recessional times, a well known VDub business has a restored 23 window for sale at $98,000. Another place has one for $87500. This is riduculous and one asks why are people willing to pay that kind of money, restored or not?
The nostalgia factor is a big factor. The whole classic car scene has changed over the past few years. But then we ask how come some other classic cars are fetching so much money as well. My brother owned an AC Cobra in the 60's. He hated it and he sold it for a song. You need to rob a bank now to buy one. My other brother owned a Manx Norton in parts but complete and he sold it for a hundred pounds in the late 60's. What will one of those fetch now.
We all know in Australia there are so few around and many have gone overseas. It is doubtful there will be many opportunities for bargains as there was in the past. My father was offered a 23 window, running and licenced for $3500 but that was a long time ago.
Long term V-Dubbers are the most cynical about the prices these are fetching as every one of us either turned down a 23.21.15 window or got rid of one for a carton of beer or gave it to our chooks to live in. However time HAS changed and like it or not they are now very valueable and VERY hard to come by.
I was asking what any of these have sold for lately in Australia just as a comparision to the overseas market.
