I pickup a nice set of 36 mm IDF webers with 32 mm vents.
And I have a few questions for the table of knowledge.

I have a TP 1600 it runs great with the standard rebuilt carb and exhaust I dont plan changing this.

So Should I bother? That is will they improve drivability or not?
If anyone else is running 36ers

Do they use the same manifolds as 40s?
Anyone got spare manifolds , linkages , filters to suit?

Mitch

I use to run then on my 1776
They are the same bolt pattern as 40's
Yes - they will wake up a 1600 big time
Unlike 40's the idle jet is on the top, but they dont have air bypass screws. Well - they do, but it is soldered up or something.
There "use" to me an article on IDF36's by M(ark??) Harney
Cant find it these days. My link goes 404

If they are "still" Alfa carbs you need to get rid of the F57 E tubes
Mains need to be 135 for 32 vents
Airs need to be a ridiculous 45
They block up a lot

Marcus (Vassy66T1) has now got a 1641 with stock cam and 40 x 35.5 ported heads and extractors. It's beautifut to drive, has very nice power and is perfect for a mild, drivable combo. It's pushing a basic camper and can put a smile on your face, miles better than stock.

135 mains with 28 vents and 50 or 55 idles, can't quite remember.
Surprised your running the 45 idles (I presume) Bizzare.

I'd put them on a stocker anyday, with a set of extractors it'd be a nice wake up, assuming your engine is in good enough condition to handle it.

Thanks Guys, Yes Barry still Alfa.
Mat The donk is strong and low milage . J pipes and standard two shot muffler . I am not sure about going to extractors though I like the standard look and sound . But Its something to consider.

Without the exhaust system, engine/head temps will increase. It better be quite low compression ratio at least.

Mat

Every one told me to run 50 or 55
My car was farting and popping
When i pushed - no one was actually running them on 36's

50 was "sweet" about a 1/10th of a turn off bottom
45's were about 1 1/2 turns out

This was on stock head 1600's and a 1776

What is interesting is John Connolly has updated is jetting page
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/jetting.htm

to include the following

" for IDFs, make the idle jet 1.25 the size of the throttle body. For example, a 40 IDF would need a 40 x 1.25 = 50 idle jet. A 44 IDF would need a 55 idle jet, and a 48 IDF would need a 60 idle jet. "

Guess what 1.25 x 36 is ???

Thanks for the info Barry, have to try some 45's in Marcus' engine, he's been saying he felt it still to rich.
