Have fitted a 2nd hand engine in the baja but it will not start. Turns over, has spark and fuel. I am thinking it is timing but how do I set the timimg properly when installing a new dizzy into the engine. There was no dizzy when I got the engine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check your firing order.
pop the RHS rocker cover off and make sure when the #1 valves arent moving the rotor is pointing to the #1 lead when the notch in the pulley lines up with the case joint
from there go clockwise 4-3-2 on the dist
when rotor is in #1 firing position pulley marks are at 90 dgrees from case joint. Am I wright in assuming that the dizzy drive shaft has been installed incorrectly and that if I pull it out I should be able to reinstall it correctly.
Question is can Ipull it out without pulling down engine?

They can be pulled out in situ but the main problem here is your leads are arse about.
There is a set alignment for the dist drive (slots 90degrees to case joint at #1 TDC smaller section to the pulley side from memory) but it doesnt really matter where it ends up just as long as its pointing at #1 when #1 is at TDC
the #1 TDC will always be when the notch is at the case joint not at 90degrees like you currently have
Firing order is correct I but i neaded to rotate leads till it is firing at number one at correct timing which seems to be happening now but still nothing. It all seems ok but just not firing as it should.
