If you actually have wide 5 stud pattern in 5.5J then that'd be such a bonus. Otherwise it matters not as I shall cut the centres out and weld the wide 5 centres in, which is why they have to be Beetle steels cos T3's have a smaller centre 😉LUFTMEISTER wrote:what stud pattern?

Not so. I bought some Type 3 wheels to swap the centres in and the T3 centre is smaller in dia then a Beetle steel. I didn't think this would be the case but it was and this I found odd 🤪empi wrote:That makes no sense T3 as in late 90s Kombi? t3 as type 3?? the only difference between type 3 wheels and beetle wheels are the offset and where the hubcaps clip in!

Really Volvo's steels have the same centre diameter as the Beetle?!? 😀hulbyw wrote:Don't have any for sale however the rims are off a 6 cylinder Volvo are 15" x 5.5" and will weld on to VW centres quite well (I have them on my '68). 4 Cyl Volvos are far more common but they use 5" but I reckon you could find a 6 cyl Volvo at the wreckers with a bit of luck.

Banded steels aren't allowed in QLD. Only one continuous weld is allowed around the rim. So trying to accurately cut a 4J rim in 2 different places to weld back together is far harder than chopping the centre out and welding the wide 5 centre into the correct width rim. Just a case of finding the right size rim and hopefully these Volvo's ones will be the way to go 🙂Bizarre wrote:wouldnt it be easier ti get some standard ones widened???
