Hey peeps,

Loving the site as usual, and awesome resource for a noob like me. Just having an issue I just can't seem to get my head round.

About a year ago I had a new window regulator put in and it failed last week (the little clip that fits to the spring/coil snapped). I ordered myself a new one and tried to install it over the weekend. When I pulled the old one out it was all bent which I thought was a bit suspect. When I tried to install the new one (German made) it just didn't fit, then only way I could get it to fit was to bend the hell out of it but then this meant that it couldn't wind all the way to the top, and was hard to wind due to the friction caused by the bent parts.

I've sent the part back now as I spent 4hrs getting nowhere. Has anyone had any weird experiences with them in the past??

The window regulators in late beetles/1302s are really not that tricky, although they're not really a precision instrument. The outer tubing which the worm gear cable type thing runs through is pretty soft, and if the new one was posted I would imagine it could have easily been bent out of shape in transit. As long as you can force it to line up with all the bolt holes in the door and tighten all the bolts up their shape is really not that critical. You may have to wrestle it in a bit to get them fitted, as I'm sure you've found out!
