I know I will get some criticism for this and suggestions for webbers, fuel injection, etc; but I would like to know which of the solex carbs are best for a 1776 or 1916 engine. I have on hand a 32 PICT and a 34 PICT.
Thanks.

34 pict is the bigger of the lot and made for the 1600's...

I don't see why you couldn't rejet it for 1776.... maybe a little small for 2ltrs...

Why would you bother? The 34mm Solex is the biggest one available on a Beetle, but even that restricts the power output of a stock 1600! If you want extra performance, swapping to a bigger carb is far more important than extra cc. The big-bore motor may make more power through a Solex than a 1600 would, but you would really be missing out by not experiencing the full potential of your big bore engine.

Problem is waveman I don't have the money for a larger carb, and if I had the money I would probably go for fue injection so it would work with a turbo. I gotta spend what I have on rebuilding my gearbox and doing an engine.😁

I use to run a 34 Pict on a 1916

It was a mild motor with stock heads, 32/36(??) cam and a VE extractor type exhaust

Did ok - really came alive with dual webers, but happily ran the Pict with no problems for 5 years

Cant really remember the jetting but the motor was built by Peter(??) at Canberra VW Centre
