Hi Malc,

I just went through the joy of trying to figure out what my spline was.

Part of my story you'll find here...

As a 72, I would almost be certain (well, at least as certain as I can be without a photo and some measurements) that yours is an earlier spline.

When finding a boss they should have a list of vehicles and the appropriate model number, yours should fit in Beetle 19?? to 1973/4.

As to where you would get a boss, you would be best to start with a place that sells steering wheels.

The PCD of your bolts will be critical, as will making sure you can hook up your horn.

Trying your local supercheap or repco will bring no luck, because the boss is highly unlikely to be a stock item, but they can probably order it in for you.

That may be a safer way of going about it than with a internet seller... but here's one to look at anyway.

Good luck

THE 17MM ONE IS FOR VERY LATE MODELS

1303s SUPERS... and 76 non supers [from memory]
which is the same as the early Golf??

you would have the standard 68-73 splines

they also fit the type 3s... maybe 70-73

as I have a late type 3 wheel in My beetle..

There's 3 boss kits when it comes to bugs
The pre 60 batwing style wheel, 60-73 big spline which is what you need and 74 on taper spline

The Taper spline swap can vary as the factory used up left over parts but it was mid 74 the swap happened.
generally I've found all cars complianced after april have it

The 74 on taper spline is common to all vw (aircooled and watercooled) and porsche from 74 up to early 90s
