removing input shaft on vw kombi gearbox

I'm trying to change input shaft and bellhousing on a 2L gearbox but I need clarification that it just unscrews after the circlip is taken off. I can't seem to get either one off. Is it a LH thread?

RH thread, remove the circlip, slide the gear off the join and unscrew.
