i'm after the pros and con for swing axle(standard) vs irs. not sure which way to go, i just want it to be a nice ride, and handle well

Please do some research, read through the tech talk forums here and on the Samba, etc. This question gets asked about once a week at least.

For a 1955 Kombi I wouldn't think that you'll be cornering hard enough for it to matter!
