Hi All,
Someone once said that i would need particular wheel bearing on my 10.1.68 (this is painted on the tunnel, just behind the handbrake) disc brake front end.
I want to buy new wheel bearing but someone said the races? would be different in Jan 68 to later 68??? When i buy new wheel bearing don't they come with new races too? Or do i just use the existing races? Are they hard work to press in and out? I have access to someone with an industrial press. Cheers.
PS While i'm asking is there better or worse brands
And i have converted to IRS and want to replace thise bearings too. Does any one have a good brand and part numbers, do the spacers need replacing?
Hi,
Front wheel bearings are a tappered roller and come complete with the roller assembly and the outer part of the bearing, also two seals will be required, try to buy Timken tappered roller's as they are concidered by many to be the best, you will be able to tap out the outer part of the bearing in the front disc brake hat's with a pin punch and hammer, there will be a bearing number on the bearing and you can take that with you when you purchase the replacement bearing's, to fit the new outer's you need to have a drift slighly smaller than the bearing outer diameter which you can use to press them in. Rear bearing's consist of the outer, a parrallel roller, part number- NU206 W, and inner, part number- 6206 C3, two seals a side is also required, i have not had to replace the spacer's in the rear when i have done them in the past, make certain that all the seal running surface's have no bad wear mark's or corrosion. Bearing service should be able to assist you with the correct parts, do not skimp on the quality of the bearing as a lot of the bearing sold are made of inferiour material and do not have the service life, use synthetic grease on the bearing's as this has a greater service life, is not hydroscopic, and will extend the life of the bearing. no clay based grease will compare to a good synthetic grease.
