which way does the plate on the gear shift go?. i have a 1971 super bug,

They all go the same way

the pointy bit faces forward and is on the left hand side

hope that makes sense

Gearshifter lock out plate...

have You replaced the nylon bush under the gear shifter base in the tunnel ??

the long up turned side is on the LEFT --
