I'm rebuilding my 73 square and got stuck on a funny rubber. The front trunk has a seal i can't work out. I'm thinking the small tab glues in to the lip leaving a big u facing the bonnet? It's an ISP west rubber but I'm asuming that it's close to a standard one.
What do you think?
The rubber is Y shaped really with the top of the y being more like a U

There's not usually any glue involved. The bonnet seal will have a lip which is inserted under the little metal flange around the bonnet. You may need to prise the flange up a bit to make enough room. Once the seal is in, the flange is bent/tapped down to crimp over the seal.
the way ive done mine if i can be clear is the y or the u as you call it is facing to the outside towards the guard so it forms like a channel so when it rains theres somewhere for the water to flow and what u will have left is a small lip say 6mill or so if your using after market or 8mill if your using orginal which will sit over the metal raised lip on the inside of the trunk i have also glued mine in i used quick grip hope this helps alittle
Cheers I'll have another look.
