I've been having issues with the accelerator arm sticking, and when the clutch cable broke it was clearly time to remove the assembly and refurbish it. The beetle seems to have other ideas and is reluctant to let me remove it. For the life of me I can not remove the master cylinder push rod.
I've taken the circlip off the pin holding the push rod to the brake pedal, but the pin is stuck in the pedal. I've been hitting it with a hammer and drift, but getting nowhere. The pin is now flush to the pedal, but that's as far as it wants to go.
As a last resort, I thought I could perhaps use a grinder to cut through the head of the pin and take the push rod off the other side, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to easily buy another one. Any ideas? Brute strength isn't my strong point, but at this point hitting the car with a hammer is a joy 😬
