Can anyone tell by this chasis number the year of my bug.

Chasis : 5040635, just want to make sure 63 is correct

Checked out the Samba and their info suggest that is a late 62 (Oct/Nov) .

German made chassis and or number ( proberly made here ) body made in Aussie

some things on the bug lead to German made as ít doesn't have the usually kangaroo pictures on fittings just the vw symbol.
