jjwebb123 - December 14th, 2009 at 09:02 PM

Hey guys.
Just wondering in your personal opinions what would be better on my 1970 beetle.

4 into 1 extratory standered style system.
OR
2 Tip GT HOTDOG System(loud and deep)

I want something street legal lol.

cheers

the 4 in to 1 standard system

GT is not very nice..

thunderbird is good, with quietpack or hotdog (bit lounder)

4into1 headers are the only ones that will give any performance gains

others will add noise but nothing else

the hotdog mufflers sound like a long loud fart, I hate em.

x2 on that.
My vote is for a sidewinder although I'm kinda partial
Also would be kinda big for a stock engine

hot dogs are so much better than fatboys. I live em. :)

Sidewinder style with a nice turbo muffler is the go I reckon. Bit of noise when you give it some, otherwise quiet enough to cruise around in without annoying the crap out of yourself.

4 into one with custom cannon on the end, sounds good.

Check it out here

Thanks for all your thought people.Im confused now ,i dont know what im going to do. Im keeping my beetle classic, and my heating is not hooked up so i want to get rid of that but i also want it to poke out the standard stock apron holes.Im not sure,i will let you know how i go. = )

If You want the exhaust pipes to come out of the rear apron..

there are NOT many options...

I have seen a lot of one off... made exhausts that come out there...

I was using a normal VW muffler with custom pipes that came under the febreglass rear valance I have...

just plain exhaust pipe bent...

but seeing You have the cutouts...

You can use a normal VW muffler and have two straight out 40- 45mm pipes...

If You do this, there will be no back pressure in the muffler
but it will be noisy...

The only real option for a 4into1 that fit in the stock cutouts is this type below.
I am using one on my 72 and although I would prefer somthing less restrictive it sound quite mellow and tucks up under the rear apron quite well. Does the job just fine.

if its a stock motor stock exhaust works best
if you want a bit more noise, like Lee said add some flared tail pipes, most vw suppliers sell them

headers on a stock motor dont offer much of a gain and often need a mainjet increase to keep the engine happy aswell plus they dont preheat properly either which is no biggy depending on where u live

the system alien8 showed above is an ok alternative, good ground clearance and a small gain as its 4into1

just get a staino or ceramic coated version, the plain ones disintergrate in 3 months/2000kms whichever occurs first
